Dolby Screen Servers

Dolby DSS200 Server

Dolby DSS200

The Dolby Screen Server (DSS200)--the nucleus of the Dolby Digital Cinema system--is designed by Dolby specifically for the cinema and real-world projection booths, with the flexibility to meet your needs for years to come. The DSS200 is based on Dolby's proven, existing FIPS-certified media block and DCI-compliant server.

The DSS200 media block decrypts the movie data and decodes the image. It outputs link-encrypted image data to the digital cinema projector and audio data to the cinema's sound processor.

The media block is repogrammable to accommodate future developments in image and sound formats and assures the highest-quality picture and sound. For security, when content is decoded, it is reencrypted before being passed on within secure hardware so pirates cannot reach valuable movie data.

The DSS200 supports the JPEG 2000 playback format, as specified by DCI, and MPEG-2 for compatibility with alternative content. Flexible serial automation and closed captions support your automation and access needs, and remote software upgrade capability makes adding features simple.

A RAID 5 hard-disk array stores digital content for playback. For delivery, a removable drive bay accommodates industry-standard content hard drives. Content can also be loaded via a DVD-ROM drive or over a network.

The DSS200 is designed to be serviced easily. The unit slides out from the rack on rails, and the top lifts up for easy access to the hardware inside.

Theatre personnel can run the show locally or remotely via the Dolby Theatre Management System (TMS) software, which includes familiar transport controls and also allows central network control, easy setup, scheduling, and monitoring. Open Web Services allow third-party integrators complete control.

Dolby DSS220 Server*

The latest addition to the Dolby Digital Cinema family of products, the DSS220 is designed exclusively to be paired with a projector containing an integrated media block (IMB), reducing the cost and size of the server chassis while providing the same reliable performance as the DSS200.

The DSS200 works together with an IMB inside the DLP Cinema Series 2 projector rather than combining the server and a media block functionality in one chassis like the DSS200. The DSS200 takes only 2U of vertical rack space, the smallest of any screen server on the market.

All of the Dolby Screen Servers provide reliable storage and playback of digital content. The entire family of products works with the Dolby Show Manager software to provide unmatched control and ease of use for screen management operations.

DSS220 Features

Compact Design

With a vertical height of 2U (3.5 inches) and a depth of 17.7 inches (50 cm), the DSS220 chassis weighs only about 31.5 lbs.

Ample Internal Storage

The DSS200 features 4TB net internal storage (3 x 2 TB RAID 5) with an eSATA port for fast external storage.

Simple Content Loading

The DSS220 provides front- and rear-panel USB 2.0 ports for convenient content ingest as well as an eSATA connector on both the front and rear of the unit. This port connects directly to external SATA storage including rack-mounted CRU drive bays.

Ethernet Transfers

Content can easily be transferred to a DSS220 from a Dolby Show Library (DSL100), Dolby Show Store (DSS100), or Dolby Screen Server (DSS200) via Ethernet using included Show Manager software.

Optimized for Multiplex Installations

Many multiplex screens don't need CRU removable drive bays in the server. For those that do, the Dolby DSS200 also supports an IMB in the projector for future expansion.

Interoperability

Works seamlessly with DSS100 and DSS200 systems on a network with compatible software versions.

Dolby Show Manager Software

Uses familiar Dolby Show Manager software to provide unmatched control and ease of use for screen management operations.

TMS Compatibility

In a multiplex with TMS from a third-party provider, the DSS220 supports the same rich set of Web services as the DSS200, enabling a consistent and reliable integration into networks with TMS and remote network operations under (NOC) management.

Digital Cinema Open System Alliance (DCOSA) Compatibility

Through the Digital Cinema Open System Alliance Dolby has partnered with MikroM GmbH and USL, Inc. Both of these partners have announced plans for an IMB supporting Dolby's DCOSA software implementation.
